BOE approves 2021-22 school calendar

The Escambia County Board of Education (Ala.) approved the 2021-22 school calendar at its most recent meeting March 18.

Some notable dates from the calendar include:

• Aug. 9, 2021 – Classes begin

• Nov. 22-26 – Thanksgiving holiday

• Dec. 20-31 – Christmas holiday; students return on Jan. 4, 2022

• Jan. 17 – MLK Day

• March 21-25 – Spring Break

• April 15 – Good Friday

• Aug. 4-6 – Teacher inservice

• Oct. 11 – Professional Development Day

• Jan. 3 and May 26 – Teacher workdays

• Escambia County High School graduation – May 23, 2022

• W.S. Neal High School graduation – May 24

• Flomaton High School graduation – May 26

• approved the following personnel recommendations:

Leave of Absece

• Eva Rowland, as school bookkeeper at ECHS, under the Family Medical Leave Act, effective Jan. 4, 2021 through Jan. 15;

• Geneva Chavers, as six-hour lunchroom worker at ECHS, medical leave of absence, effective Jan. 21 through March 12, 2021;

Resignation

• Shelley Burgess, as six-hour lunchroom workers at Escambia County Middle School, effective March 26, 2021;

• Robyn Hardy, as special education teacher at Flomaton Elementary School, effective May 21, 2021;

• Wendy Shelton, as elementary teacher at FES, effective May 21, 2021;

• Dishista Brown, as seven-hour lunchroom worker at Rachel Patterson Elementary School, effective Feb. 26;

• Andro Williams, as head football coach and track and field coach at W.S. Neal High School, effective Feb. 19;

• Telena Williams, as intervention teacher, cheerleader coach and track and field coach at WSNHS, effective Feb. 19;

Retirement

• Scarlet Strom, as elementary teacher at Huxford Elementary School, effective June 1, 2021;
