EA boys win overall AISA state track championship

Escambia Academy’s boys track and field team won the AISA overall state championship Friday.

The win marked the Cougars’ sixth straight championship. In 2020, the season was canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

EA finished with 132 points. Bessemer Academy tallied 95; Tuscaloosa Academy had 59 points; Abbeville Christian and Glenwood rounded out the top five with 46 points each.

EA’s girls finished tied for seventh with Evangel Christian.

Results for EA’s boys and girls include the following:

Boys

• 110-meter hurdles – Sam Fields, 16.27 seconds; Josh Spruill, 17.11 seconds; and Caleb Davis, 18.63 seconds

• 200-meter dash – Devin Kelly, 24.01 seconds

• 300-meter hurdles – Spruill, 43.38 seconds; Maliki Haynes, 44.26 seconds; and Fields, 44.97 seconds

• 400-meter dash – Bubba Nettles, 53.45 seconds

• 800-meter run – Tyler Ray-Cloud, 2 minutes, 12.13 seconds; and Daughtry McGhee, 2:17.63

• 1600-meter run – Ray-Cloud, 5:24.38; and McGhee, 5:32.24

• 3200-meter run – Timmy Doerr, 13:43.54

• Discus – Hunter Smith, fourth place; and Kanye Hooks, 10th place

• High jump – TJ Riley, fourth place; and Haynes, seventh place

• Long jump – Nettles, third place; Landon Sims, fourth place; and Spruill, seventh

• Shot put – Chris Long, ninth; and Smith, 10th

• Triple jump – Sims, second place; Spruill, fourth; and Nettles, ninth

• 4×100-meter relay – EA finished third, 46.40 seconds

• 4×200-meter relay – EA finished fourth, 1:37.78

• 4×400-meter relay – EA finished second, 3:48.56

• 4×800-meter relay – EA finished first, 9:17.94

• 100-meter hurdles – Tava Johnson, fourth, 18.96 seconds

• 300-meter hurdles – Johnson, 10th, 58.86 seconds; and Tiffany Gookin, 16th place, 1:06.75

• 800-meter run – Anna Chesley Robinson, 11th place, 3:11.28
