Cougars split Friday; to play 3rd game today

Escambia Academy split with South Choctaw Friday night in the first round of a AISA Class 2A regional.

The Cougars won the first game 8-7 in 9 innings, but lost the night cap 9-1, forcing an if necessary game today at 1 p.m. to close out the series.

Landon Sims threw a one hitter, striking out eight and walking none in 7.0 innings to earn the win on the mound.

Christian Crooko went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs; Parker Robinson went 2-for-3 with a walk, a double and two stolen bases.

SCA 9, EA 1

Robinson pitched 7.0 innings, allowing five hits, three walks and two hit batters.

Kanye Hooks went 2-for-3; Sam Fields went 1-for-3 with a stolen base; Caleb Davis went 1-for-3; and Brady Howell went 1-for-3 to lead EA.
