Several members of the I.M.P.A.C.T. Mentor Program watched how the city government is run during an Atmore City County meeting on Monday.

Program Coordinator Karean Reynolds said before the meeting went underway, the boys that participate in the program participate in a lot of community projects.

One such project is a stretch of road from Martin Luther King Ave.. to Houston Avery Park as well as from the park to Carver Avenue, he said.

“We want to have that identified as the I.M.P.A.C.T. Zone,” Reynolds said. “We’ll be responsible for cleaning that property up at least once a month.”

Reynolds said the city council didn’t have to decide on the measure at the April 26 meeting, but hopes the city will help erect a sign for the effort.

In other business, the council:

• adopted a resolution first reading for the 2021 Alabama Division Hazard Mitigation Plan;

• approved the sale of property on Carpet Drive for a laboratory facility for $9,000 an acre. The facility will be used to test the quality of peanutes. At present, Coastal Growers LLC is building a new peanut shelling facility adjacent to the property.

• approved the reappointment of Willie Hawthorne to the housing board; and,

• approved the reappointment of Dr. Ulysses McBride and Wayne Gray to the utilities board.
