Thirty years ago in 1991, someone had stolen air conditioners from where they had been installed during renovations at the Lions Community Center. Wiring and copper had become very valuable, making them easy targets.

National Teacher Day was celebrated on May 7.

Police recovered the air conditioners stolen from Lions Community Center.

Most of what was stolen was found in Jacksonville, Fla. at the home of the owner of an air conditioner dealer. All of the material, with a value of $20,000, was returned to the owner.

There was a story in the newspaper about Charlotte Boyle and the many wild animals she feeds every day. No one is forgotten among the cats, dogs, possums, racoons and who knows what else. She even carried a bag of food in her car just in case she spotted a hungry animal.

When I worked at The Atmore Advance I got to know Charlotte a little. She was nice to people as well as the animals.

One section of the paper was devoted to the graduates of 1991 in the area.

Vandals hit three area schools – A.C. Moore Elementary School, Atmore Vocational Center and Escambia County High School. The very next issue of the newspaper reported that the vandals were caught in the act at the high school. Two 17 year-olds and one 16 year-old were the guilty thieves.

United Bank was planning the 23rd Annual Senior Citizen Day with plenty of good things to eat and special guests, including Miss Atmore and her court.
