Escambia Academy rising senior Jamison Janes is attending the 79th annual American Legion Auxiliary’s Girls State Program this week on the campus of the University of Alabama.

While at Girls State, Janes is learning about the democratic process and how our republic form of government works at the state and national levels, according to EA’s Facebook page. Girls State is one of the highest honors a young woman can receive.

This week, Janes is a member of the Federalist Party and is living in the mock city of Tutwiler while she’s there for the week. The girls are also learning about the political process by electing officials for all levels of state government and actively running a mock government. To be completely immersed in this experience, Janes has chosen to run for county commission, a position for which she will have to give two speeches.

Janes is the daughter of Jerry and Danna Janes.
