Atmore 8U All-Stars finish 1-2 at district tournament

Atmore’s 8U Cal Ripken All-Stars finished 1-2 at the District 7 Tournament last weekend in Excel.

Atmore defeated Monroe County 10-7 in the first game on June 11, but fell 14-5 to NWE and 20-8 to Flomaton on June 12.

The 8U All-Stars were coached by Tristan McAnally, head coach; Joseph Parker, assistant coach; Brian Bell, assistant coach; and Josh Martin, assistant coach.

McAnally said Martin pitched a good weekend for the team. In 8U ball, pitching is handled by the coaches.

Atmore 10,

Monroe County 7

McAnally said multiple kids hit well and played good defense, adding that third baseman Ben Tingle made two diving catches during the game.

Tingle went 3-for-3 to lead ATmore at the plate.

McAnally said Major Walker, Nikko Bazaldua, Kase Martin, Braxton Parker and Jace Gohagin had two hits each.

Bazaldua added an inside the park homerun.

NWE 14, Atmore 5

McAnally said the boys played well on both sides of the ball, but a couple of mistakes cost the team on defense.

Bazaldua, Martin, Isiah Lewis, Tingle and Bell had two hits each to lead Atmore.

Flomaton 20, Atmore 8

Bazaldua, Martin, Tingle, Korben Bell and Parker had two hits each.

Bell had an inside of the park homerun.
