EMA director: Rainfall, flash flooding greatest threat from storm

The potential tropical cyclone three is continuing to move across the central Gulf of Mexico and is expected to bring heavy rainfall and flash flooding along with gusty winds, isolated tornadoes and minor coastal flooding, according to the National Weather Service.

A tropical storm warning is in effect for Baldwin central and coastal; Escambia coastal; Mobile central and coastal; Okaloosa, Fla. Coastal; and Santa Rosa coastal.

Escambia County EMA Director David Adams said the greatest threat to the county is heavy rainfall and possible flash flooding.

Small creeks and streams may experience short term flooding as well,” Adams said. “Moderate or severe flooding is not currently forecast by the Southeast River Forecast Center, but this can change as the system develops.”

A flash flood watch is in effect from June 18, noon, until June 20 at 6 a.m., according to the NWS.

A wind advisory is also in effect from June 18 at 10 p.m. until June 20 at 1 a.m.
