Malcolm Charles Willis “Mike”, passed away on July 4, 2021 at St. Vincent’s hospital in Green Bay, Wisc.

“Do not go gentle into that good night…rage , rage, against the dying of the light.”

The youngest child of Ida Pearl and Leroy Willis Sr., Mike was born on April 23, 1963 in Atmore.

Mike was an avid fisherman who spent many days of his youth fishing the crimson bottomed waters of Alabama and Florida. Not even the 10,000 Lakes in Minnesota, where he resided for several years could exhaust his insatiable love for the sport.

A self-described “baller,” Mike enjoyed casinos and saw nothing wrong with taking a road trip to get to the nearest Popeye’s.

In August 2020, Mike suffered a cataclysmic fall, resulting in a spinal injury that left him quadriplegic.

Though his body faltered, Mike’s spirit rallied. Through repeated hospitalizations Mike kept coming back. An ICU nurse speculated perhaps Mike had nine livers; sadly no, only one; it ended on Sun., July 4. As our nation celebrated its liberty, Mike gained his freedom.

Mike’s two oldest children, Darrin and Maria reside in Atmore.

His remaining siblings Annie George (Johnny) and Letha Barnes also of Atmore, mourn the lost of their baby brother to this wicked system of things .

A private memorial will be determined at a later date.

“And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more…”
