A Brown Precision employee injured himself after accidentally discharging a gun Thursday afternoon, according to the Atmore Police Department.

Chief Chuck Brooks said on Aug. 26, 2021, at approximately 3:57 p.m., the APD received a 911 call from 410 Innovation Pkwy., Brown Precision, in response to an employee shot in the leg.

“APD officers immediately responded to the scene,” Brooks said. “On arrival, APD officers were told the employee accidentally discharged the gun while at a work station causing the injury. Officers then provided medical assistance to the injured employee. The employee was then life flighted from the scene to a medical facility in Mobile.”

Brooks said APD officers later learned the firearm was brought into the building by the injured employee’s brother, who also works for the company.

“The brother told officers he forgot to remove the weapon before entering the building so it was placed at his work station,” he said. “At some point, the gun owner’s brother retrieved the weapon and attempted to disassemble it, and the gun went off causing the injury.”
