Escambia County fell 46-0 to Vigor tonight in Atmore.

The Blue Devils trailed 20-0 after the first quarter, and 34-0 at halftime.

Head football coach Scott Mason said they were able to move the ball around here and there, and Vigor’s offense proved too much to tackle or block.

Mason said other positives from the game were that the Blue Devils didn’t suffer any injuries, and some younger guys got some experience up front.

“We threw the ball well at times,” he said. “We had a good scheme going. It depended on us throwing the ball. They were just driving us back.”

The game was moved up three hours for a 4 p.m. kick off because of security concerns. There was a high police presence in case something were to occur.

Mason said the school appreciated the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office, the Atmore Police Department, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency and Superintendent Michele McClung for being present at the game.

“Our principal (Amy Cabaniss) did an outstanding job coordinating tonight,” he said. “Her efforts to keep everybody safe were visible. She does a great job.”

Next Friday night, ECHS continues in Class 4A, Region 1 action in a road contest at Williamson.
