Escambia Academy scored early and often, and the Cougars’ second string got some good playing time during a 41-15 region victory over Southern Academy tonight at Bachelor Field in Canoe.

With the win, EA improves to 8-1 overall, and 3-1 in AISA Class 2A, Region 2. The Cougars have solidified the No. 2 seed heading into the playoffs.

The scoring plays below are from the first half.

First quarter

• Quarterback Landon Sims threw a 20-yard touchdown pass to Jacob Lee with 5:29 left.

• Sims found Malaki Haynes on a 37-yard touchdown pass with 5:07 left. The Cougars stripped the ball on the ensuing kickoff.

• JJ Stevens rushed 27 yards for a score with 3:11 left.

• Bubba Nettles ran the ball 15 yards for a touchdown with 30.7 seconds left.

Second quarter

• Christian Crook ran it 12 yards for a touchdown with 8:56 left.

The second string then played the rest of the game for EA.

• Southern’s Cade Atchison had a 55-yard reception for a touchdown with 44.7 seconds left in the first half.

EA led 35-7 at halftime.
