Blue Devils get off to good start on season

Escambia County is off to a good start as the boys and girls basketball teams won their first two games of the 2021-22 season Thursday and Friday.

The Blue Devils beat B.C. Rain 72-60 on Friday night, and defeated Monroe County 57-37 on their season opener in boys action. The girls beat B.C. Rain 46-16, and Monroe County 48-40.

Sheldon Williams scored 27 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for a double double. He had three assists and blocks each.

Connor McPherson added 26 points, six rebounds, five assists and four steels; Hakeem Johnson contributed with 15 points, five rebounds and eight assists; Xavier Gee had three points, one rebound and an assist.

In girls action, ECHS won 46-16.

ECHS 57, Monroe County 37

Williams led ECHS with 19 points and 12 rebounds; Stephen Williams had 12 points and 10 rebounds and four blocks; and McPherson scored 13 points and six rebounds.

In girls action, the Lady Blue Devils beat MCHS 48-40.
