Escambia Acadmey’s boys basketball team built a big lead and held on late to beat Central Christian 52-47 Tuesday night in Canoe.

The Cougars led 22-6 after the first period, but Central came back to outscore EA 18-9 in the second to trail 31-24 at the break.

EA then went on a 11-2 run in the third, pounding the basket and executing passes. In the fourth, the Central cut the game to 11 with 5:47 left, and EA made some free throws late.

Landon Sims led EA with 22 points, eight assists, six steals and five rebounds; Charlie Sasser contributed with 15 points and 11 rebounds for a double double; and Brian Brown had 11 points and eight rebounds.

Central’s Peyton Pritchett led with 12 points.

In varsity girls action, the Central won 52-38.

Zy McNeal led EA with 15 points, Lillie Lanham had 12 points.

K. Camps led Central with 21 points.

In junior varsity girls action, the Lady Couglars won 40-16.

McNeal led with 29 points.

EA is back in action this Saturday at Central. JV and varsity boys only. Tip off for JV is at 6 p.m.
