ECHS boys, girls beat TRM, Flomaton Thursday

Escambia County’s boys and girls basketball teams are off to a good start in the annual county tournament at T.R. Miller.

The No. 3 Blue Devils defeated T.R. Miller 59-30 in the boys bracket to start play on Thursday. The girls beat Flomaton 43-38.

Conor McPherson and Sheldon Williams led ECHS with 20 and 19 points, respectively. Xavion Gee contributed with six points; Hakeem Johnson and Terrence McNeil had five points each.

The Blue Devils led 29-19 at halftime.

The boys play W.S. Neal tonight at 7:30.

ECHS girls 43, FHS girls 38

Escambia County’s C’anna Betts and Jayla Adams led the Lady Blue Devils with 21 and 17 points, respectively.

Briana Stuckey led FHS with 23 points. Jalia Lassiter added eight points.

A close game throughout, the Lady Blue Devils outscored FHS 10-9 in the first period, 7-6 in the second and 12-11 in the third.

The girls play TRM at 4:30 p.m.

In earlier action this week, Escambia County defeated Monroe County 56-27 on Monday.

Williams and McPherson led ECHS with 13 and 12 points, respectively.
