Sophia Mims and Darinda Blankenship of Atmore completed Coastal Alabama Community College’s Ready to Work fall program, officials said.

Mims and Blankenship graduated from the program with their National Career Readiness Certificate and Alabama Certified Worker Certificate. Both also earned a scholarship that can be used toward any four-credit class at CACC, officials said.

Both will be using their scholarship to pursue degrees at CACC in 2022.

With these certificates, Mims and Blankenship will be able to show future employers and schools that they are well versed in the core skills needed to be successful in any job or program.

To earn the Alabama Certified Worker Certificate, the students needed to show proficiency in the latest in office technology, personal financial literacy, workplace communication and behavior skills, problem solving and critical thinking skills, time management skills, as well as job preparation tools.

The National Career Readiness Certificate is a portable, evidence-based credential that certifies the essential skills for workplace success. Employers look for it from job candidates, whether they come directly from high school, work-based learning programs, or through postsecondary paths, because it is a valid predictor of job performance.
