ECHS girls earn close victory

Escambia County’s boys basketball team defeated Vigor 62-49 in Class 4A, Area 1 action Friday night in Mobile.

The Blue Devils led 13-3 after the first period and 24-16 at halftime on their way to improve to 16-3 overall, and 2-0 in the area.

Conor McPherson led ECHS with 20 points, five rebounds and four assists; Sheldon Williams added 18 points, nine rebounds, five steals and six blocks; and Hakeem Johnson scored 11 points and grabbed five boards.

Jacob Dirden contributed with eight points and five rebounds.

Vigor’s Larry Ruffin led with 21 points.

In girls action, the Lady Blue Devils won a close contest 61-59.

Jayla Adams led ECHS with 29 points. C’anna Betts contributed with 23 points and 14 rebounds.

Makayla Lyons added 20 rebounds in the win.

In other area basketball action, Escambia Academy defeated Oak Park Christian 56-44.

Landon Sims led EA with 29 points and Bubba Nettles contributed with 14 points. Nettles and Charlie Sasser had six rebounds each.

In junior varsity action, the Cougars won 41-34.

Ronta Watson led with 16 points.
