An Atmore man died in a house fire on Ann Street on Sunday morning, according to fire officials.

Chief Ronald Peebles said the AFD was called at 6:18 a.m. on March 20, and firefighters were on scene 3 minutes later.

Peebles said because of the fatality, the Alabama Fire Marshal’s Office was called. The fire marshal is doing an investigation on the fire and all information was turned over to the state, Peebles said.

Peebles said there is no suspicion of foul play, and the wife and grandchild managed to get out of the house.

Peebles said Frank Jones, of Atmore, passed away in the fire.

Poarch Fire Department provided mutual aid, and the Atmore Police Department helped the AFD as well, Peebles said.

The AFD completed the scene at 1:30 p.m.
