An Elberta man was arrested March 30 on drug charges, according to the Atmore Police Department.

Public Information Officer Sgt. Darrell McMann said Brian Rolin, 52, was charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

McMann said in a release that on March 30 at 12:15 a.m., an investigator with the APD was assisting Alabama State Troopers conducting a driver’s license checkpoint.

“The investigator came into contact with a driver, later identified as, Brian Rolin, age 52 of Elberta,” McMann said. “A second investigator with the Atmore Police Department noticed that Mr. Rolin was wearing an ankle monitor. Rolin was asked if he had a curfew since he was on probation. Rolin stated ‘yes,’ and he had to be home by 11:30 p.m. He also stated that he just went to the store to get a beer. The investigator pointed out it was then after midnight and asked if he had an open container. Rolin stated it wasn’t open and lifted it up so the investigator could see it.”

McMann said as Rolin lifted the beer can up to the investigator, the investigator noticed that beneath where the beer can was sitting a clear plastic baggie in plain view on the passenger seat.

“The plastic baggie was containing approximately 5 grams of methamphetamine,” he said. “As Rolin exited his vehicle, he grabbed his pack of cigarettes. The investigator searched the pack of cigarettes and discovered that along with the cigarettes was a clear baggie that contained methamphetamine. While searching the vehicle, the investigator found a clear glass pipe commonly used to smoke methamphetamine that also had residue.”

Afterward, Rolin was transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton.
