EA boys wins AISA JV state championship

Escambia Academy’s junior varsity boys track and field team won the AISA Class 1A-2A state championship on Saturday in Canoe.

The Cougars topped the rest of the field with 156 points, just six over second-place finisher Wilcox Academy. Evangel Christian came in third with 59 points. Abbeville Christian, Edgewood and Snook round out the six-team field.

In girls action, the Lady Cougars finished as state runner up with 87 points. Jackson Academy won the title with 136 points.

Those EA athletes who finished in the top four in each division included:

  • Girls triple jump – Paisley Donaldson, first place, 26.02 meters; and Alexis Strength, fourth place, 20.02 meters
  • Boys triple jump – Eli McIlhaney, first place, 31.06 meters; Danny Doerr, second place, 29.04 meters; and Coleby Sims, fourth place, 25.10 meters
  • Boys long jump – Samarion Clark, third place, 17.01 meters
  • Boys shot put – Gabe Hooks, third place, 36.07 meters
  • Girls shot put – Tyleaha James, third place, 19.09 meters
  • Girls discus throw – James, fourth place, 43.06 meters
  • Boys 3200-meter run – Doerr, first place, 12 minutes, 29.92 seconds
  • Girls 100-meter hurdles – Brooklyn Lucas, third place, 21.52 seconds
  • Boys 110-meter hurdles – Clark, first place, 18.63 seconds
  • Boys 100-meter dash – Ty McCants, third place, 12.70 seconds; and Traegan James, fourth place, 13.26 seconds
  • Girls 1600-meter run – Paisley Donaldson, fourth place, 6:47.66
  • Boys 1600-meter run – Doerr, first place, 5:35.65; and Sims, third place, 6:40.79
  • Boys 4×100-meter relay – EA, first place, 51.26 seconds
  • Girls 400-meter dash – Donaldson, second place, 1:14.33
  • Girls 300-meter hurdles – Lucas, third place, 1:09.85
  • Boys 300-meter hurdles – Clark, first place, 44.32 seconds
  • Girls 800-meter run – Strength, first place, 3:04.01
