Atmore man arrested for sex abuse

An Atmore man has been charged with sex abuse of child less than 12 years of age, according to the Atmore Police Department.

Public Information Officer Sgt. Darrell McMann said in a release that on Oct. 30, 2021, a parent brought his child to the APD in reference to an adult sexually abusing his child.

McMann said the suspect was described as a family friend, Curtis Smith, of Atmore.

McMann said a warrant for Smith’s arrest was issued at the completion of a joint investigation involving the Alabama Department of Human Resources and the APD.

McMann said Smith was charged with sodomy I and sexual abuse of a child less than 12 years of age.
