ACS holds Class of 2022 commencement exercises

As Anthony Swartzendruber said a prayer of blessing of the Atmore Christian School Class of 2022, a new chapter was about to begin for the four graduates turning their tassels from left to right.
Kara Hawkins, Titus Dean, Gage Gades and Caeden Battles celebrated the end of their elementary, middle and high school education during commencement exercises May 20 at the school.
Battles, valedictorian of the class, said the class worked hard over the last 13 years.
“We’re here to celebrate our achievements and accomplishments,” Battles said.
Battles said each graduate had a unique experience at ACS, noting there were some good and bad times.
“Graduating marks the end of a chapter in our lives,” he said. “We can’t skip the pages to see how long the chapters are going to be. We each have our own books.”
Guest Speaker Renee Wilkins, who taught all four for two school years while they were in middle school, echoed Battles’ words on writing their own books.
“Tonight is a night of excitement, a night of the future,” Wilkins said. “This chapter will not be handed to you already written. Look at the lessons you’ve learned.”
Wilkins encouraged the graduates to not begin their next chapter with complacency, but continuing to do their good deeds and prayer life.
“Check your spirit often,” she said. “Have a good attitude in all you do. Never lose your sense of humor.”
Wilkins shared fond stories of each graduate and noted that the class shared a camaraderie she will never forget.
“Parents, I would be remiss if I didn’t acknowledge the love and guidance you’ve instilled in your children,” Wilkins said. “It was truly a pleasure to work with each of you.”
A class song with a slide presentation was shown, and each were presented their diplomas by Headmaster Justin Halteman and Jerry Gehman.
