Atmore Police Chief Chuck Brooks said the department will never call a person who has a warrant and take payments over the phone.

Brooks said Friday that the department had a gentleman come into the department, saying that they received a phone call from the 251-368-9141 number and told them they had a warrant on them.

Brooks said the APD doesn’t take payments over the phone, but the department does call people who have warrants and ask them to come to the department and submit payment.

Brooks said people can call on any number they assign, and to be aware of the scam.
