Atmore man arrested, charged with trafficking, possession

An Atmore man was arrested on trafficking and drug charges on July 1, according to officials.

Atmore Police Department Public Information Officer Sgt. Darrell McMann said in a release that Johnathon McGhee, 53, of Atmore, was charged with drug trafficking (methamphetamine), possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana II and possession of drug paraphernalia.

McMann said that at approximately 2:55 p.m. on July 1, the APD’s Drug Task Force Investigators conducted a traffic stop on Jack Springs Road.

“Through the course of their investigation, the investigators attempted to obtain consent to search the vehicle,” McMann said. “When consent was denied, the investigators contacted the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office for assistance from a K-9 deputy.”
McMann said the K-9 arrived on scene and alerted on the vehicle. The occupants were removed from the vehicle and a search of the vehicle was conducted, he added.

“Investigators discovered 59 grams of methamphetamine, 1 gram of marijuana, one oxycodone pill and drug paraphernalia,” McMann said.

McMann said McGhee was transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton.
