The Poarch Creek Indians are hosting the 2022 Native American Youth Organization (NAYO) Tournament July 21-23 at Arrowhead Park in Poarch.

NAYO is a baseball and softball tournament that brings together teams from Tribes from around the country. This year’s teams are from PCI, Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians, Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians and the Seminole Tribes of Florida.

PCI sports coordinator Jake McGhee said the age groups competing in the tournament range from 7 years old to 18 years old.

McGhee said 10 teams – one in each age group – are competing from PCI.

“They’ve been practicing hard,” McGhee said. “They’re all looking forward to it. They’ve put in the hard work, and many hours. I know they’re ready and we’re ready, too.”
McGhee said games begin at 8 a.m. each day, and lasts until the games end.

Admission to the games is free.

To access the park, drive down Jack Springs Road and once on the reservation, take a left onto Lynn McGhee Dr.

In 2017, when PCI hosted the tournament last, parking was available right across from the park.
