Sixty-five teams participated in the 2022 Native American Youth Organization (NAYO) Baseball and Softball Tournament July 21-23 at Arrowhead Park in Poarch.

PCI hosted the annual event, which brings together teams from Tribes from around the country. This year’s teams included the Poarch Creek Indians, Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians, Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians and the Seminole Tribes of Florida.

PCI sports coordinator Jake McGhee said the tournament went off without a hitch.

“I think it went well,” McGhee said. “In terms of just as far as games, it was almost perfect. We a little delay (one day), but for the most part, everything went great.”

McGhee said games wrapped up early on Saturday night, and the feedback he’s gotten has been positive.

“Our staff worked really hard and got after it,” he said. “I was really proud of them. It was exciting to see everybody at the ballpark.”

Those teams who finished first through third in each age group included:

Boys

• 8U – LAFlorida Boyz, first place; Dinger Nation, second place; PCI, third place

• 10U – Indian Outlaws, first place; Just Let It Hit You, second place; and The Braves, third place

• 12U – PCI, first place; Diamond Kings, second place; The Braves, third place

• 15U – PCI, first place; MBCI Heat, second place; Red Storm, third place

• 18U – PCI, first place; Southeastern Diamondbacks, second place

Girls

• 8U – MBCI, first place; Chahta Alla Alhiha, second place; and MTS Diamond Elite, third place

• 10U – MTS Diamond Elite, first place; Lady Tomahawks, second place; PCI, third place

• 12U – Seminole Amp, first place; MTS Diamond Elite, second place; Prospects, third place

15U – Mavericks, first place; Bats-itude, second place; Lady Warriors, third place

• 18U – Lady Tomahawks, first place; Benchwarmers, second place; EBCI, third place
