ECSS BOE approves educational resources, personnel recs

The Escambia County (Ala.) Board of Education approved additional professional development and educational resources during its meeting on Aug. 11.

The board approved the purchase of Proven Practices Professional Development from PowerSchool Group LLC for $227,500; a math intervention and professional development from BBB Educational Enterprises Inc. and Heinemann to increase math proficiency in grades 1-5 for $300,596.75 for materials and $85,761 for professional development; and guided reading series and classroom library sets for grades K-5 from Heinemann and Next Level Libraries LLC for $473,836.50.

The development and educational resources were paid for with ESSER III funding.

In other business, the board:

• approved the salary adjustment for the superintendent based on the state’s 4 percent raise and salary matrix based on years of service, effective Oct. 1, 2022;

• approved the purchase of property at 1201 Forrest Ave., East Brewton, for $170,000 utilizing local funds. The property was appraised by Alan Associates LLC with a value of $175,000. The board is responsible for the property’s appraisal fee of $400. The board will not assume any debt with the purchase of this property;

• approved a revised salary schedule;
