Atmore man arrested on domestic violence, elder abuse charges

An Atmore man was arrested and charged with elder abuse and domestic violence charges, according to the Atmore Police Department.

Public Information Officer Sgt. Darrell McMann said in a release that Dayshawn Dixon, 38, of Atmore, was arrested and charged with elder abuse II and domestic violence III (criminal mischief II).

McMann said the arrest stemmed from an incident that occurred on Sept. 22 at approximately 10:30 p.m.

McMann said APD officers responded to a residence on East Fourth Street in reference to a domestic disturbance.

McMann said the suspect, Dixon, began arguing with his mother.

“During the discussion, Dixon obtained a large piece of wood and struck his stepfather in the head,” he said. “Dixon walked out of the residence and broke out all the windows with the large piece of wood. Responding officers contacted Dixon as he was walking away from the residence.”

McMann said the victim received a severe laceration on his forehead, was treated and released after seeking treatment

McMann said Dixon was transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton.
