Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Turning the deadbolt on the lock at The Atmore Advance last Tuesday night, I didn’t know where I was going to walk.

Last Tuesday marked a week straight of walking downtown and in the immediate area of the newspaper.

After securing the door, I turned left and headed south on Main Street, toward Heritage Park.

As I was walking, I thought, let’s just take a left onto Craig Street and then come back down Pensacola Avenue. By the time I got to the intersection, I changed my mind and kept on going straight.

I turned left right across the way from First Assembly of God Atmore, and began my journey down Pensacola Avenue.

By this time of the day, it was nearing sunset and the air felt quite pleasant.

I noticed there was the smell of burnt wood and other vegetation, which to me, signifies the best time of year – fall.

In the fall season, the air cools, the sunlight changes and change is in the air.

Leaves begin falling from trees and rakes are pulled from the garage as eager K-9 friends wait for the pile to jump into.

By the time I got down parallel to the YMCA, I thought I had a good walk going so far.

But, at the last minute, I thought I might keep going and that I did.

I kept walking, but had no real direction. I turned down a few different roads and ended up back at the office, where my car awaited to take me home.

After a quick stop at a convenience store, I made it home and kicked my feet up and was pleased with the walking result.

Look for me to continue this joyous activity, and if you see me walking, give a honk or a wave.
