American Legion Post 90, VFW to hold flag retirement ceremony Nov. 11

Commander Dave Graham of Billy Glenn Rushing Post 90 announced Monday that the post, along with the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7016 will hold a flag retirement at the Veterans Monument behind Atmore City Hall on Fri., Nov. 11 at 10 a.m.
Members of both organizations will conduct a formal retirement ceremony for “Old Glory,” the symbol of our nation, officials said.
The event will include the lowering of a tattered flag, a six-member flag fold, hoisting of a new flag and the burning for interment of unserviceable flags. The ashes of all retired flags will be interred at the Old Glory Monument located in Cheaha State Park in Delta, Ala.
Members of the community can bring unserviceable flags to the ceremony for retirement. Those interested may choose to participate by placing your flag in the flames in a respectful manner.
Seating at the event will be available.
