An Atmore man was arrested Oct. 17 on possession of burglary tools, resisting arrest and criminal trespassing charges, according to the Atmore Police Department.

Public Information Officer Sgt. Darrell McMann said Jackson Stallworth, 63, of Atmore, was arrested and transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton. The criminal trespassing charge was in the third degree.

McMann said on Monday at approximately 10:30 p.m., APD officers responded to the 200 block of South 21^st Avenue in reference to a possible burglary in progress.

“When the officers arrived on scene, they were notified that the suspect, later identified as Jackson Stallworth age 63 of Atmore, was blacked out in his vehicle in an adjacent cotton field,” McMann said. “The property owner observed Stallworth walking around the property on game cameras that were installed.”

McMann said when Stallworth noticed the officers approaching him, he allegedly turned on his headlights and turned his vehicle around.

He then allegedly accelerated at a high rate of speed from the cotton field onto 21^st Avenue. He attempted to turn onto Airport Road but lost control and struck a utility pole. He attempted to drive away but only made it a short distance before his vehicle stalled. He was taken into custody without further incident, McMann said.

The Alabama State Troopers investigated the traffic accident.
