ECHS boys, girls fall to Vigor Tuesday night

Escambia County’s boys and girls basketball teams fell to Vigor in regular season action Tuesday night at Cornell Torrence Gymnasium in Atmore.

The boys lost 56-49, while the girls fell 51-47.

The Wolves led 16-13 after the first period.

Escambia County’s Mike French made three 3-pointers in the second period en route to a 14-point game.

Lorenzo Arnold later got a jumper to make it 25-24, but the Wolves answered with two straight 3-pointers late by Aslan Jones to lead 30-26 at the break.

Vigor went on a 10-0 run to take a 41-32 lead, which it wouldn’t give up for the rest of the game.

VHS 46-34 going into the fourth period.

Escambia County brought it back to within single digits, thanks to a spurt by Anthony McCants, who completed a 6-0 run by himself.

But Vigor took advantage of some miscues, never giving up the lead in the end.

Stephen Williams finished with 10 points and 11 rebounds for a double double; and McCants contributed with seven points.

Vigor girls 51, ECHS girls 47

C’anna Betts led ECHS with 21 points, and Hannah Montgomery added 15 points in the loss.

VHS led 22-19 at halftime.

 

Escambia County’s boys will be back in action Dec. 8-10 in the county tournament at T.R. Miller.
