More than 1,000 pounds of canned food was collected during Rachel Patterson Elementary School’s annual Christmas Canned Food Drive.

Prinicipal Toya McMillian said the third annual event yielded a total of 978 canned and non-perishable food items or 1,200 pounds.

“For the second straight year, the winner of the pizza party with a total of 106 cans was Mrs. Emmons’ second grade class,” McMillian said. “Mrs. Johnson’s second grade class won second place with 98 cans, and Mrs. Hughes’ first grade class won third place with 84 cans.”

Mrs. Johnson and Mrs. Hughes’ classes received a popsicle party, McMillian said.
