Atmore man arrested on drug, possession charges

An Atmore man was arrested Jan. 21 on drug possession charges, according to officials.

Atmore Police Department Investigations/Public Information Officer Sgt. Darrell McMann said in a release that Robert Rigby, 34, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

McMann said the arrest stemmed after an APD officer observed a vehicle run a stop sign while turning onto Highway 31 at approximately 12:15 a.m. on Jan. 21.

“The officer stopped the vehicle and contacted the driver, Robert Rigby, 34, of Atmore,” McMann said. “While speaking with Rigby, the officer noticed signs that Rigby could be possibly impaired.”

McMann said Rigby gave the officer consent to search his vehicle.

“The officer discovered a digital scale with a crystal-like residue that field tested positive for methamphetamine, and a glass pipe with a crystal-like residue that field tested positive for methamphetamine,” he said.

McMann said Rigby was transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton.
