ECHS to play Jackson Friday night; if Blue Devils win, coin toss determines area tournament host

Escambia County’s boys basketball team edged T.R. Miller 44-41 in overtime Tuesday night in Brewton.

With the victory, the Blue Devils improve to 13-7 overall, and 4-1 in Class 4A, Area 2.

The game was notched 20-all at halftime, and 38-38 at the end of regulation.

ECHS outscored the Tigers 6-3 in extra time.

The Blue Devils play Jackson in area action this Friday night at home. JHS beat ECHS 75-65 on Jan. 20.  ECHS will need to win this week to get a coin toss between the two. The winner of the coin toss hosts the area tournament.

“If we stay solid on defense, and shoot well, we should be victorious,” Escambia County boys basketball coach Layton Knight said.

Knight said the keys to Friday night’s game area playing defense well, limiting turnovers and shooting.

Knight said at present, the boys are played pretty well.

“Last night (Tuesday), we sprung it in overtime, and played pretty good,” he said.
