Monroeville man arrested by APD for drugs

A Monroeville man was arrested Feb. 1 on drug charges, according to the Atmore Police Department.

Public Information Officer Sgt. Darrell McMann said in a release that Michael W. Amos, 54, of Monroeville, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

McMann said the arrested stems after APD responded to the area of Wilson Avenue and Ridgeley Street in reference to a suspicious person loitering in the area at approximately 7:15 a.m. on Feb. 1.

“The responding officer contacted the suspicious person at the intersection who was later identified as Michael William Amos age 54 of Monroeville,” McMann said. “During the interaction, the officer developed probable cause and a search of Amos revealed a small amount of a crystal-like substance that field tested positive for methamphetamine. Officers also found a glass pipe with a crystal-like residue that field tested positive for methamphetamine.”

Amos was transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton.
