“When officers arrived on the scene, they discovered that George Cooper, 44, of Atmore, forced open the front door and attempted to shoot one of the people inside the residence before fleeing the scene,” McMann said.

McMann said Cooper was seen by an officer a short distance away, and was taken into custody.

Cooper had a loaded firearm in his pocket when he was arrested, McMann said.

McMann added that Cooper is a convicted felon.

Cooper was then transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton.
