ECHS’s Thomas finishes 3rd in 152-pound weight class at state

Escambia County’s Elijah Thomas finished in third place at the AHSAA Class 1A-4A 152 weight class state championship Feb. 16-18.

Thomas finished the season with a 43-4 record, and earned ECHS 17 team points during the tournament.

Thomas received a bye in the first round; won by decision over St. James’ Jake Huff in the quarterfinal; fell by decision to Ohatchee’s Matthew King in the semifinal; won by major decision over Ranburne’s John L. Caldwell in the consolation semifinal; and beat Huff by injury default in the third place match.

Additionally, Mason Huggins finished fifth in the 170-weight class. He finished the season 29-10.

Huggins won by decision over St. James’ Pruitt Conner in the fifth place match; fell to Deshler’s Ross Mills by fall; and beat Ashville’s Travis Smith, Alabama School for the Blind’s Christopher Weaver. Huggins fell to Layton Pohl of New Hope in the first round.

In the 182 weight class, Tyanthony Dailey received a bye in the first round; fell to Weaver’s Anthony Usry by fall; and fell to Ohatchee’s Cody Freer.

Dailey finished the season 26-12.
