The Atmore City Council adopted two resolutions Monday for a street resurfacing and Carpet Drive award during its regular meeting at city hall.

The street resurfacing award was for resolution 2023-06, and was awarded to H.O. Weaver and Sons. The awarded bid amount was for $2,117,112.26.

The portions of streets that will be resurfaced include McRae Street, 14^th Avenue, South Carney Street, South Trammell Street, West Horner Street, East Horner Street, 6^th Avenue, Ridgeley Street, Brown Street, West Ashley Street, East Ashley Street, Harris Street, Robinson Street, Swift Mill Road, Bream Street, Perch Street, South Pensacola Avenue, West Oak Street, West Louisville Avenue, Peachtree Street and Carpet Drive.

The Carpet Drive award was for resolution 2023-07, and was awarded to Arrington Curb and Excavation of Flomaton. The awarded bid amount was for $348,000 and is for widening of Carpet Drive to help make the turnouts bigger for trucks.

In other business, the city council:

• approved the Yellow Hats’ request to name the road in front of the Houston Avery Park pool, “George Mosby Drive;”
• approved a liquor license for the Strand Theatre and Encore. Pride of Atmore Executive Director Foster Kizer said if the venue is serving liquor, there will be security present;
• approved Chris Harrison as first alternate, and Shawn Lassiter as second alternate voting delegates at the annual business meeting of the Alabama League of Municipalities;
• approved the second annual Autism Awareness Walk for April 1;
• adopted resolution 2023-04 for fixing the costs incurred in the demolition or repair at 53 Harris St. for $8,173.46; and,
• adopted resolution 2023-05 for fixing the costs incurred in the demolition or repair at 75 Jones St.
