City approves first reading to annex property

The Atmore City Council approved the first reading of an ordinance to annex property into the corporate limits of the city Monday night

The ordinance, 01-2023, approves the annexation of property owned by Margherita J. Soule Revocable Trust, Red Maple Investments LLC, Carl E. Jones and Ariene J. Sevy into the corporate limits of Atmore.

In other business, the city:

  • adopted resolution 2023-08 for surplus property disposal, authorizing the sale of personal property owned by the city that is not needed for public or municipal purposes for $13,500. The items included a wrecked fire truck, garbage truck, air compressor and pull behind generators. The items are no longer working and will be sold for scrap, city officials said; and,
  • approved the Women of Distinction’s annual Breast Cancer Walk. This year’s walk will be held on Sat., Oct. 14, 2023. From this year forward, the walk will be held on the second Saturday of October, and the week prior, the town will be painted pink for Breast Cancer Awareness.
