Escambia Academy’s valedictorian and salutatorian encouraged the class of 2023 to never stop learning and make their lives rock during commencement exercises tonight at Grace Fellowship Atmore.

Eighteen EA seniors turned their tassels from the right to the left at the ceremony, where family, friends, school faculty and staff filled the church sanctuary.
Valedictorian Tiffany Gookin said this senior class has been learning for 13 years.
“Each day, we have learned something new, Gookin said. “Someone said, ‘Never stop learning because life never stops teaching.'”
Gookin said one thing that will never change, no matter where they are going is that, “we will continue to learn.”
Gookin thanked her parents for their support; coaches for pushing her; and family and friends.
Salutatorian Abby-Kate Helton asked her class one question: How do you make your life rock?
Helton gave examples from each letter of the word, “ROCK.”
“‘R’ stands for relying on Christ,” Helton said. “‘O’ stands for opening yourself up to new opportunities. Open up yourself to change, and welcome change with excitement.
“Chill out, and take a deep breath and keep going,” she said. “Hold your head up high.”
Helton said the “K” stands for “killing people with kindness.”
“Treat others the way you want to be treated,” she said. “If you’re kind to people, it will come back to you tenfold.
“Life’s what you make it, let’s make it rock,” she said.
Headmaster Susan Kirk and EA Board Chairman Chris McElhaney presented the diplomas.
