A Uriah man was arrested May 26 on drug charges, according to the Atmore Police Department.

Public Information Officer Sgt. Darrell McMann said in a release that Steven Bartlett, 45, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance.

McMann said at approximately 5:10 p.m. on the day of the arrest, APD officers responded to Spudd’s Gas Station on Highway 21 in reference to a person acting erratically.

“When officers arrived, they were directed to a vehicle that was parked at a gas pump,” he said, adding that the officers contacted the person in the driver’s seat, Bartlett.

McMann said the officer observed Bartlett allegedly moving items around in the vehicle as Bartlett struggled to get out of the vehicle and claimed he had a medical problem.

“The officer was given consent to search the vehicle and discovered several tianeptine pills,” McMann said.

Bartlett was then transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton.
