Gordon’s Giving will be held on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 23, at St. Robert’s Bellarmine Catholic Church’s Boland Hall.
The annual meal is held in memory of Gordon Nichols, who passed away in a wreck in November 2019.
“Gordon loved people and not only loved helping them, but giving back to them,” Nichols’ mother, Melissa said. “The first responders in Atmore were helping us before we even knew we needed it. Gordon’s Giving is not only a time of special thanksgiving to those who helped us, but has become an outreach to those who may be spending the holiday alone or in the hospital.”
Melissa said they delivered some 200 meals last year. She said meals can delivered to the hospital, nursing home, assisted living facilities and any first responders who can’t get by to eat. Additionally, if anyone is in need of a meal, they’ll deliver a meal, she said.
“All are welcome to come eat at Boland Hall or pick up,” she said. “We know schedules are important and sometimes you just can’t take off.
“We try each day to be ‘the things’ we loved so much about Gordon,” she added. “He loved family, friends, laughter and he had the ability to make everyone he met and knew feel very special. Atmore is filled with so many loving, caring people. The love and support our family has been shown is just amazing. It literally takes your breath away. We are surrounded by a community that loves and loves hard.”
The meal will be served at Boland Hall at 12:30 p.m.
