An Atmore man was arrested July 12 on drug charges, according to officials.
Atmore Police Department Public Information Officer Sgt. Darrell McMann said in a release that Derek Staples, 35, was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana I and possession of drug paraphernalia.
McMann said the arrest stems after an APD officer conducted a traffic stop on Jack Springs Road in reference to a driver failing to have headlights on at approximately 8:10 p.m. July 12.
“During the officer’s interaction with the driver, later identified as Derek Staples, age 35, of Atmore, one of the officers observed a small plastic baggy in plain view with a green leafy substance,” McMann said. “The officers conducted a probable cause search and recovered several dozen grams of marijuana and a digital scale.”
Staples was then transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton.
