Atmore man arrested July 28 on drug possession charges

An Atmore man was arrested July 28 on possession of drug charges, according to officials.

Atmore Police Department Public Information Officer Sgt. Darrell McMann said in a release that Willis Williams, 36, of Atmore, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

McMann said at approximately 3:10 a.m. on the day of the arrest, an APD officer observed a vehicle stopped in the middle of Mosley Street.

“The vehicle was running, and the officer observed a male, later identified as Williams, asleep in the vehicle,” he said. “The officer also observed what appeared to be synthetic cannabis (spice) in Williams’ lap.”
McMann said the officers were able to wake Williams after a few minutes, and also called for an ambulance to assess Williams, to which he refused.

Williams was then transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton.
