Atmore, Bay Minette woman arrested on theft charge

A woman from Atmore, and another from Bay Minette were arrested July 2 and 29, respectively, on a theft charge, according to officials.

Atmore Police Department Public Information Officer Sgt. Darrell McMann said Nakia Buxton, 48, of Atmore, and Linnie Buxton, 48, of Bay Minette, were arrested on a warrant for theft of property I.

McMann said on June 24, 2024, at approximately 2:15 a.m., APD officers were notified of a theft from a local business that occurred a few days prior to the report.

“Several thousand dollars worth of copper wiring had been stolen,” McMann said. “The on-call investigator worked with the victim and the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office to identify the suspects.”

McMann said N. Buxton was identified as a suspect and was taken into custody on July 2. L. Buxton was also identified as a suspect.

McMann said the investigator obtained an arrest warrant for theft of property I. L. Buxton was then taken into custody and transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton on July 29.

McMann said the case is still under investigation and additional arrests are possible.
