National Hurricane Center forecasters are monitoring a tropical system in the northeastern Caribbean Sea, according to officials.

Escambia County EMA Director David Adams said in a release that it’s still too early to tell if this system will develop or if it will deliver impacts to the area.

“The models originally had the highest probability of impacts to the Florida peninsula or southern east coast,” Adams said. “Since the system has been slow to develop, the models have shifted their focus to the west. This is bringing the threat closer to our area.”
Adams encouraged residents to take the time to review their emergency plans and nonperishable food and water supplies, just in case.
