Coming off its season-opening win over Clarke County, Flomaton is setting its sights on Chickasaw tomorrow night on the road.
The Hurricanes defeated then Class 2A No. 6 CCHS 23-15 on Aug. 22 in a Thursday night opener.
FHS head football coach Doug Vickery said the school has played Chickasaw several times throughout the years. Chickasaw is coming off a 31-0 loss to Robertsdale in its opener.
“They’re pretty good from a standpoint of their athleticism,” Vickery said. “They have a new coach in coach (Dedrick) Sumpter. I think he came from Pike County, and he was an assistant over there.”
Vickery said Sumpter had been a head coach at other spots, and knows what he’s doing.
Vickery said Chickasaw has some size as well as athleticism, adding that their numbers range in the 20s on the sideline, which can bring depth issues to the front.
However, the Hurricanes aren’t taking the game easy, and have been practicing hard this week, Vickery said.
“The kids haven’t been taking them lightly, and understand that we’re having to go down there to enemy territory and play, play them and play down there at their home,” he said.
During the win over Clarke County last week, quarterback Harper Harrison had 18 carries for 68 yards and two touchdowns. He connected a 55-yard touchdown pass to Zy Martin in the effort.
Martin also had 20 carries for 93 yards and a score. Additionally, Lance Presley had three carries for 11 yards.
Vickery said defensively, Harrison played well, along with Ian White, Presley, Guy Murphy, Maddox Boyette, Jriston Henderson and Tucker Lambeth.
Kick off at Chickasaw tomorrow night is at 7.
