An Atmore man was arrested Sept. 4 on obstruction and drug charges, according to officials.
Atmore Police Department Public Information Officer Sgt. Darrell McMann said in a release that Jeremiah James, 36, was arrested and charged with obstructing justice using a false identity, two counts of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
McMann said at approximately 9:40 a.m. on the day of the arrest, APD officers responded to the 500 block of Bragg Street in reference to a disturbance. When officers arrived on scene, they came in contact with James, he added.
“During the officer’s interaction with James, he provided a false name,” McMann said. “Several of the officers at the scene are familiar with James due to other encounters with him, and were able to properly identify him. James provided a false name as he was aware he had an outstanding warrant for his arrest with the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office.”
McMann said the warrant was for failure to appear for a traffic citation.
James was placed under arrest and charged with obstructing justice using a false identity, McMann said.
“Officers also discovered James was in possession of a small amount of methamphetamine, a glass pipe with methamphetamine residue and synthetic cannabis (spice),” he said.
James was then transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton.
