An Atmore man was arrested Sept. 7 and charged with felony fleeing and eluding, felony possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and driving under the influence, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
According to a release, the arrest occurred after a FHP trooper performed a PIT maneuver on the sport utility vehicle of Derek M. Colemanan, 34, at U.S. Highway 29 and Molino Road in Escambia County, Fla. at approximately 11:15 p.m. Sept. 7.
According to a release, a trooper while working observed an SUV fleeing from two marked Escambia County Sheriff’s deputies.
“Dispatch confirmed they were in pursuit of a vehicle which was reported as driving recklessly, driving the wrong way against traffic and possible DUI,” FHP officials said. “The deputies pulled to the outside lane, allowing the trooper to take lead of the pursuit and utilize the PIT.”
FHP officials said following the application of the PIT, the vehicle rotated counter clockwise into the median and overturned twice, taking its final rest on the roof.
“The driver was transported to Baptist Hospital with minor injuries, and when released from the hospital, the driver was taken to the Escambia County Jail to be booked,” FHP officials said.
Additionally, the driver was also cited for having an open container, according to the FHP.
